Capsule Geology

The PM 7 (MQ) occurrence is located south of the Keogh River, approximately 1.5 kilometres northeast of Beaver Lake.

Regionally, the area is underlain by west-northwest–trending basaltic volcanic rocks, limestone, mudstone and siltstone of the Upper Triassic Karmutsen and Quatsino formations (Vancouver Group) and Parson Bay Formation (Bonanza Group). To the south are mixed volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Lower Jurassic Holberg volcanic unit, whereas to the northeast lie sediments of the Upper Cretaceous Sasquatch Formation (Nanaimo Group).

On the southern boundary of the PM 7 claim, limestone of the Quatsino Formation is intruded by quartz feldspar porphyry dikes. Pyrite is concentrated at the dike-limestone contacts. One dike is mineralized with malachite and azurite. The limestone band trends west to west-northwest and has been traced for over 10 kilometres.

In 2013, three Quatsino Formation limestone samples yielded from 95.08 to 98.93 per cent calcium carbonate, 0.17 to 0.29 per cent magnesium carbonate and 0.47 to 3.81 per cent silicon dioxide (Assessment Report 34609).

The following year, 18 samples from the occurrence area, extending up to approximately 10 kilometres to the west, yielded from 94.40 to 98.57 per cent calcium carbonate, 0.17 to 0.40 per cent magnesium carbonate and 0.67 to 4.47 per cent silicon dioxide including section 2014-03, which averaged 98.06 per cent calcium carbonate, 0.20 per cent magnesium carbonate and 0.89 per cent silicon dioxide over 8.5 metres (Assessment Report 34923).

In 2017, six samples from the MQ property yielded from 95.13 to 98.45 per cent calcium carbonate, 0.10 to 0.46 per cent magnesium carbonate and 0.23 to 3.92 per cent silicon dioxide (Assessment Report 37354).

In 2018, 24 Quatsino samples collected from the MQ property ranged in quality from 96.34 to 99.16 per cent calcium carbonate, 0.14 to 0.42 per cent magnesium carbonate and 0.37 to 2.93 per cent silicon dioxide with the highest-quality Quatsino interval (Section 2018-04) averaging 98.29 per cent calcium carbonate, 0.11 per cent magnesium carbonate and 1.12 per cent silicon dioxide over approximately 20 metres (Assessment Report 38081). These samples were collected along an approximately 5-kilometre strike length to the west.

Work History

In 1981, BP Minerals completed a program of geological mapping, rock chip sampling, geochemical surveys and over-burden drill sampling. Rock chip sampling returned values up to 0.85 per cent copper (Assessment Report 10855).

During 2010 through 2019, Graymont Western Canada Inc. completed programs of prospecting, geological mapping, rock sampling and 612.8 line-kilometres of ground magnetic surveys on the area as part of the MQ, Nimpkish, Varney Bay and Bonanza properties. This work was centred on the limestone quality of the occurrence area and extended approximately 10 kilometres to the west.
